The search for the perfect skincare routine seems to be never ending. Your skin’s requirements change both with age and as the weather changes throughout the year.
As summer slips into Autumn, I find that my skin starts to get a little drier. Central heating always has a drying effect, and so I tend to use richer, more intensive treatments than in the Spring and Summer.
And your skin is also being bombarded on a daily basis by sunlight, pollution and free radicals. So as well as making sure that I apply an SPF, a good antioxidant is also an important part of my skincare routine.
So I was really excited to be sent some of Spa Technologies UK’s Vitamin C Serum to try out. Both vegan and cruelty-free, this serum is one of their bestselling products. It is designed to protect, plump and revive your skin.
What They Say
This product contains powerful botanical extracts alongside two forms of Vitamin C.
Vitamin C Ester acts as a moisture locking agent to plump and brighten skin while decreasing puffiness. Meanwhile the traditional Vitamin C compound in the serum helps to protect against oxidative damage, minimise damage caused by free radicals, and also calms rosacea and helps to heal acne prone skin.
And the seaweed and anti-oxidants forming the basis of the serum help to stimulate collagen synthesis, acting as building blocks for skin repair and regeneration.
Finally the serum contains Shea Butter, which helps to hydrate fine lines, and Vitamin A to boost Retinol production.
Although the Vitamin C Serum is particularly suited to normal to dry skin, the rosemary extract contained in the serum makes it suitable for oily skin as well.
At first glance this serum doesn’t look particularly exciting. It arrived in a fairly plain plastic box, and didn’t look as glamorous as some other serums I’ve tried. But don’t be deceived by this!
Inside the plain packaging, the serum is contained in a heavy glass bottle with a pump action dispenser. As I’ve mentioned lots of times on this blog, this is my preferred container for skincare products. Not only is it more hygienic than a pot, but it helps to protect the integrity of the product’s ingredients.
The serum itself is cream in colour, and has a consistency that’s closer to a lotion than a gel. It has a very pleasant scent that is slightly citrussy and also a little like cocoa butter, but is not overpowering at all.
The serum feels intensely rich and moisturising, and takes a little longer to sink into my skin than my usual serums. But it leaves my skin feeling fantastic, very hydrated and cared for. My fine lines are plumped up, and my skin generally looks a little more radiant when I’ve been using this product.
In fact, I think that if your skin isn’t very dry, you could possibly get away without using a moisturiser on top of this products. That’s how rich and hydrating it feels on your skin.
Spa Technologies UK Vitamin C Serum is designed for use both in the morning and at night,. But I feel that it is probably more suitable for night time use.
That’s because for me, it’s not quite rich enough to use without a moisturiser. And when I used it with my usual moisturiser I felt that the combination was a little too intense for daytime.
But the serum is excellent as an intensive moisturising treat for night time use, and in the morning my skin looks hydrated and refreshed.
The serum retails for around £35 for 30mls, and although this isn’t a cheap serum, a little goes a long way. So you should find that a bottle will last quite a long time.
Vitamin C Serum: The Verdict
I’ve been really impressed by this serum, and the way it leaves my skin feeling. It’s excellent as a rich night time serum, and leaves my skin looking and feeling revitalised.
