Spring is here again, the days are getting longer and the evenings are getting lighter. So you may well feel that you’d like to freshen up your bedroom and give it a new look before the warmer weather gets here.

And it’s really easy to make quick changes that will get your bedroom ready for Spring. You don’t need to spend a fortune, and just a few simple alterations will transform it from your cosy Winter retreat into to a bright, fresh space ready for the new season.

So here are some simple ways to give your bedroom a fresh new look for Spring, without breaking the budget.

Check what needs replacing

This new season is the perfect time to take stock of your bedding, removing any items that you don’t use or are starting to look worn out.

As well as your sheets and duvet covers, you may need to replace your pillows and duvet. Your pillow absorbs oils, sweat and dead skin cells as you sleep, and it will also lose its firmness and support over time. So it’s a good idea to buy new pillows every one to two years.

A good quality duvet should last at least five years, but you may want to swap out your heavy winter duvet for a lighter spring/summer version. This can help you to get a better night’s sleep in warm weather.

And every seven years, you should look at replacing your mattress to make sure that it is supporting you and giving you the best possible night’s sleep.

Update your window dressings

Changing the curtains in your bedroom can give it a totally different look and feel, whether you go for some smart blinds, colourful curtains or something neutral that won’t clash with any future colour changes in your room.

If you struggle to sleep on lighter mornings, it’s worth investing in some black-out blinds or curtains.

Or you could invest in some floaty muslin or voile curtains to layer underneath your existing curtains. They’ll help to give you privacy but still allow natural light into your room, and they look very romantic as well!

Pack away the blankets

As the weather changes, it’s out with the chunky knits and plush fabrics, and in with lightweight throws and cotton sheets.

Just as you change your own wardrobe with the seasons, it’s also a great opportunity to switch up things in your home. When the weather gets warmer, you’ll really welcome the cooler, lighter fabrics.

So put away the chenille and velvet, and look out for cotton and linen. But maybe keep a warmer throw or two close at hand, for those cold snaps that can surprise us in early Spring!

Switch your sheets

In the winter months, there’s nothing like snuggling up in a warm bed with cosy flannel sheets when the winds are howling outside your window.

But when the nights are getting warmer, you won’t want or need such heavy fabrics in your bedroom. So now is the time to switch the heavy sheets for cotton, linen or percale sheets to help you keep cool through spring and summer.

They’ll give your bed a cool, fresh feel, and help you to feel more comfortable on a hot summer’s night.

Add some new colour to your room

Changing your duvet cover and pillow cases is a quick, easy and inexpensive way to add a Springtime pop of colour to your bedroom.

You’ll find plenty of options online and on the High Street, and there’s sure to be something to suit your taste and budget.

Adding in some throw pillows in a co-ordination colour and pattern will also freshen up your bed. And you could just do this on its own as a really quick and simple pick-me-up for your room if you don’t want to buy new bedlinen.

Pick out some Spring Accessories

This is the really fun bit – picking out all of the little knick-knacks and sentimental favourites that you will put on display.

Look for pretty spring colours to freshen up the room, and don’t forget to add in some vases where you can display some of the lovely flowers of the season.

Scent of the Season

And finally, don’t forget to indulge your sense of scent by including some Spring-time fragrances in your bedroom. It’s time to pack away those warm, spicy scents that you love so much in the winter, and pick out something a little lighter.

You might like to use scented candles or essential oil burners, or you could fill vases with spring flowers. And a lavender sleep spray will fill your room with a beautiful floral scent, and can help you drift off to sleep more easily too.

With these simple changes, it’s really easy to give your bedroom a springtime makeover.
