I didn’t really know how to start this post. I’ve never been through anything like this, and I’m sure you haven’t either.
But I wanted to let you know how things are going here, and what you can expect to see on SallyAkins.com as we go through these most unusual of times.
I’m not going to try and talk specifically about the coronavirus, because I’m no expert. There are plenty of excellent websites where you can access medical information on Covid-19, and the Government’s Covid-19 pages have advice on aspects such as self-isolation, social distancing and business support.
So far we’re all still fine here, touch wood. Mark is now working from home, Ollie and Lyle are preparing for school and college to close on Friday, and we’re all wondering what the cancellation of A Levels means for Ollie.
I’m trying to make sure that Mark’s parents have got some food in, ready for when they are asked to socially distance themselves, and I’ve spoken to my neighbours, making sure that we’re all covered if we need to self-isolate.
As for me, I’ve had to cancel and postpone various travel plans, and like most travel bloggers I’ve noticed that people aren’t searching for travel information quite as much as they were a month ago.
But I do feel that it’s important that we try to keep a semblance of normality in these very unusual times. So I’ll still be posting about travel and lifestyle with a touch of luxury, even while I’m pretty much confined to my home in Shropshire.
I’ve got a few posts coming up from my recent trip up to Scotland. After that, I’m planning to look back at some trips that I haven’t covered fully here on SallyAkins.com, and I hope you’ll enjoy looking back at them with me.
I’m also going to be posting more lifestyle content because, well, I guess we’re all spending a bit more time at home these days!
There might be a few more old-school chatty blog posts. And I’ve also decided to line up a couple of extra giveaways for the coming weeks, because I think we could all do with a bit of extra positivity, and I love giving away prizes!
On social media, you’ll find that I’m sharing photos from my own travels as well as helping to promote some of the independent businesses that I’ve worked with, and others from my local area that I plan to try out once life gets back to normal.
This pandemic is really going to hit small businesses hard, and I’d love to help them wherever I can. I’m also going to share things that I hope will make you smile a little, whenever I see them.
And don’t forget that if you’re struggling with mental health issues due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are helplines and online services that are waiting to help. Talking to someone about your worries can really help, so please do reach out to them if you feel you need a helping hand – you are not alone!
