Disclosure: I was invited to visit Rush Hair in Birmingham for a cut and finish, but I paid for the additional products myself. All opinions are my own and unbiased.
The effect of a good hair cut always amazes me. Not just on my appearance, although I do think that the cut and condition of your hair does make a huge difference there. But more than that, a good hair cut makes a big difference to how I feel about myself. When my hair looks good, I feel more positive and my self-confidence soars.
I also think that the relationship with your hairdresser is one of trust. You have to trust them to look after your hair, and you also trust them to keep whatever confidences you might share in the salon.
So when Rush Hair asked me if I’d like to visit their Birmingham city centre salon, I have to admit that I was a little nervous. I’ve been with my current hairdresser for about 4 years, and she knows me very well. But I liked the idea of trying out a new salon, and anyway, hair grows back doesn’t it?
So I turned up to the salon on a freezing cold Thursday morning. If you know Birmingham city centre, the Rush Hair salon is on Corporation Street, right opposite House of Fraser. It’s very easy to find, and the salon looks bright and cheerful from the outside.
Inside there was music playing, and the salon is clean and bright throughout. It makes a great first impression. I was greeted at the front desk by Liam, who would be cutting my hair that morning. After a quick consultation, I was taken through to the gorgeous spa room to have my hair washed.
Unlike the energy of the main salon, this area is quiet with peaceful lighting. It’s perfect for relaxing while you have your hair washed. Because I colour my hair regularly, it can tend to be dry, so Liam recommended a treatment to replenish the moisture in my hair. I was very happy to relax in the spa room for a few extra minutes, I also had a fabulous scalp massage which was wonderfully relaxing. I could get used to all these massages that I’ve been having lately!
Rush Hair uses high quality hair care brands, such as Moroccan Oil, GHD and Shu Uemura. Liam recommended the Kerastase Chroma Captive range to help protect the colour in my hair and maintain moisture levels. I treated myself to those to take home with me, as well as the volume spray to add body to my fine hair.
After that, we went back through to the salon for my hair cut. My hair has been in a graduated bob for a few years now, but I didn’t really want to make any drastic changes with a new hairdresser. I asked Liam to just generally tidy it up and give the back more shape.
I really liked Liam, he’s got great energy and we soon got chatting while he worked. Before too long we were swapping stories and comparing photos of our dogs! Liam took great care over my cut, and also gave me some interesting information about hair care. Although I spend a lot of time and money on skincare, I tend to just grab hair care products while I’m in the supermarket. That doesn’t make much sense, does it?
As my hair took shape, I was feeling really relaxed. So when Liam suggested taking the back of my bob a little higher, and cutting my fringe a little differently, I was quite happy to trust his judgement.
All too soon, my hair was dry again and it was time for the finishing touches. Liam is a real perfectionist, and took care to trim my bob so that it fell perfectly along my jaw line. I love the cut, and I’m really pleased with how shiny and bouncy my hair looks.
My usual salon is a lot closer and more convenient than making the journey into Birmingham. But my experience at Rush Hair was so good that I’m seriously considering making it my regular hair salon. Thank you to Rush Hair, and particularly to Liam for looking after me. After being pampered so well, I was ready to hit the shops. And yes, I definitely had an extra spring in my step!
