I’ve already got the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation and concealer in my collection, and use them often. So when I heard that they were adding Wake Me Up mascara* to the range, obviously I had to go out and buy it.
Rimmel claim that its vitamin-enriched formula provides defined, clump-free volume, which sounds fantastic. Will the product deliver?
The first thing that you notice with this mascara is obviously the packaging. It definitely can’t be described as subtle, and stands out in my make-up collection amongst all the black tubes of mascara. This made it very easy to pick out the right product while I’ve been testing it!
When you open the tube, the next thing you notice is the smell. Unlike most mascaras, this one smells very strongly of cucumber. At first I was a bit concerned about the scent, as I have a very sensitive sense of smell. However, the scent seemed to be less strong after opening the tube a few times, and it very quickly goes away after application.
As you can see, the product has a shaped, bristle brush (thank you, Rimmel!). I really like this applicator, its shape hugs my lashes really well and gives very good coverage on both upper and lower lashes.
But does the product live up to its claims? Yes, actually I think it does. I found that it gave good length to my lashes, as well as a decent amount of volume. The effects are not as dramatic as some of the mascaras I have tried, but I think they are pretty impressive. I’ve definitely found that my lashes stayed clump-free, the colour is beautifully black and the scent is pleasant.
Best of all, my lashes stay soft even after applying two coats of Wake Me Up mascara*. I really hate having stiff, crispy lashes so this was an unexpected bonus.
Overall I really like this product, and at £7.99 it’s a bit of a bargain. It’s definitely become one of my favourite mascaras for daytime use, although I might still opt for something more dramatic for the evening.
