There were agricultural displays, local food and entertainment for all the family at the Newport Show 2022.

After the last two very difficult years, the 111th Newport Show took place at Chetwynd Deer Park near Newport in Shropshire on 9th July 2022.
With no Covid restrictions required at last, visitors to the show were treated to a wonderful day out packed full of exciting things to do, delicious things to eat and even fantastic Summer weather!
Other commitments meant that I was only able to pay a flying visit to this year’s show. But I was able to take a good look around and soak in the joyful atmosphere of this historic event.
How to get to Newport Show
Newport Show takes place at Chetwynd Deer Park, around a mile outside the market town of Newport in Shropshire.

It’s easy to get to Newport by car, as it is around 15 minutes’ drive from Junction 3 of the M54. Once you reach Newport, you can park in the town centre and take the free shuttle bus up to the showground.
Alternatively, you can use the Park and Stroll facility – parking is available at Newport Rugby Club and then it’s just a short walk over to Chetwynd Deer Park.
Farming displays
Newport Show is packed full of exhibitions, displays and competitions about farming, both modern and traditional.

This year’s event featured the latest agricultural machinery on display, delighting the young children visiting the show.
There was also a parade of more than 80 vintage tractors in the main show ring, some of them dating back to the early 20th century.

You can also see a whole host of farm animals up close, this year including some large Orpington chickens, and there are show classes for both cattle and sheep.
When they aren’t in the show ring, the animals can rest in the cool shade of Chetwynd Deer Park’s tall trees, while you can take a look and chat to the owners. Strict hygiene precautions are in place including disinfectant mats and hand wash stations.

Newport Show also has a keen interest in the future of farming. The show’s neighbours from Harper Adams’ University in Edgmond provided fascinating demonstrations and interactive displays of emerging technologies in the Innovation Zone.
Equestrian trials
As well as the grand parade of show winners and vintage tractors, the main show ring was also to a fantastic equestrian competition, featuring riders from the surrounding area.

Show jumping trials and horseback relay races kept the large audience enthralled throughout the day. There were also some exciting, high energy displays from the highly skilled horses and riders of Atkinson Action Horses.
Entertainment
There was a packed schedule of entertainment over on the Village Green this year, keeping the crowds entertained throughout the day.
Team M.A.D provided an exciting BMX display, while Meirion Owen put on a brilliant One Man and his Dog style display with his skillful border collies and the Quack Pack of Indian Runner ducks.
There was a Punch and Judy show for the youngsters at the show, and Stafford Morris kept delighted the crowds with their traditional Morris dancing.

Family Fun
Newport Show is a great day out for the whole family, and there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.

As well as the Village Green and main Show Ring, you could also head up to the Education Hub.
The results of the local schools’ Photography competition and Great Potato Challenge were on display here.

Younger visitors to the show could also see the adorable chicks and ducks, as well as making their own bug hotel to take home with them.
The Horticulture tent was right next to the Education Hub, which highlighted local craft and pastimes as well as offering opportunities for plant shopping.

And if that still wasn’t enough to keep you entertained, there were also live music performances, taiko drumming, stilt-walking drummers, a dog show, falconry displays and even an RAF fly past!!
Food and Drink
The Newport Show takes up a large area at Chetwynd Deer Park, and all that walking around is going to work up an appetite. Luckily there are plenty of delicious options for food and drink at the show.

The Festival of Food featured a wide range of food options from gyozas to gyros, plus there were other food vendors dotted around the showground.
You could enjoy a refreshing gin and tonic in the shade by the lake, or fill your water bottle from one of the water points around the show.

You could pick up locally made ice cream or a cold drink to revive you and the Festival of Food also hosted a selection of food traders selling delicious treats for you to take home with you.
Some of these are local traders from Newport Indoor Market.

The Cookery Theatre featured some fascinating food and drink demonstrations including wine tasting and demonstrations by local chefs and popular TV chef Rosemary Shrager.
And little foodies were also catered for, with ice-cream making in their own dedicated tent.

Newport Show is a fantastic day out for all of the family. I only had time for a quick visit this year, but I can’t wait to go back for the Newport Show 2023!
