Hello March!

Is it still raining? Whatever the weather, we’ve got plenty of great content ready for you in March !

If this month’s picture looks a little out of place, that’s because it is.

I took this photo on a weekend in Ironbridge, the beautiful and historic Shropshire town that sits on the River Severn close to Telford. It was a gloriously sunny day and we’d just walked into town from the cottage that we were staying in.

If you’ve seen photos of Ironbridge recently, you’ll know that it’s suffered terribly with flooding in the wake of Storms Ciara and Dennis. The river has now risen up above the wall that you can see at the right hand side of the photo, and threatens the row of shops along the Wharfage. The emergency flood defences have held back the water, thank goodness. But some areas of Ironbridge have seen terrible flooding on more than one occasion in recent weeks.

Hopefully, by the time you read this the river will be starting to recede and the people of Ironbridge can get on with the task of repairing any damage. There are a number of fund raising events already planned to help with the costs, and I’ll certainly be heading over there to spend some money and support the community.

If you’re looking for a place to visit for a day trip or for a longer break, I hope you’ll consider Ironbridge. There are masses of things to do to keep you entertained, and loads of lovely places to eat and drink.

But back to my plans for March…

Last month I visited two lovely places to stay in the Cotswolds. The MarIborough Arms is a historic coaching inn in the village of Woodstock, and the Plough Inn is a cosy country pub in the village of Cold Aston.

They’re quite different properties, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stays at both of them. I’ll be posting my reviews here this month, starting with my thoughts on the Marlborough Arms later this week.

And then later this month, I’ll be heading back to Scotland for my first visit of the year. I’m going to be visiting two more gorgeous places to stay, and I have some other plans up my sleeve as well.

March is looking like a busy month here on SallyAkins.com!
