My sons love a good adventure novel and ‘Darkmouth‘, the debut novel by Shane Hegarty looks like it could be a winner.
Legends (terrifying, human-eating monsters) have invaded the town of Darkmouth and all that stands between them and world domination is Finn, a 12 year old boy. Not a natural hunter, but he tries really, really hard.

Eoin Colfer (author of Artemis Fowl) describes the book as ‘Hilarious and exciting. Terrifying and heart-stopping. Everything a great fantasy series should be. The next big thing is here’
My 13 year old son Ollie is a very keen reader. He has loved all sorts of fiction from Artemis Fowl, Lemony Snickett, the Inheritance trilogy – you get the picture- so I handed over ‘Darkmouth’ to him right away when it arrived. We spent the weekend at a tennis matchplay event that Lyle was playing in, and Ollie spent hours with his nose in the book. I’ll post his review in the next few days.
‘Darkmouth‘ is available from Amazon in both hardback and paperback editions, and is also available for Kindle.
