Spending Christmas with a bunch of total strangers probably isn’t your idea of a fun festive break. But that’s exactly what happens to Lucy Clarke in Sarah Morgan’s new festive novel, Snowed in for Christmas.

When the marketing company she works for hits hard times, Lucy decided to seize the initiative. She doesn’t have any family to spend Christmas with, so there’s nothing to stop her driving up to the Scottish Highlands and hand-delivering a pitch document to Ross Miller, the high-achieving boss of Miller Active.

Ross is going to spend Christmas with his parents Glenda and Douglas and his sisters Alice and Clemmie, not forgetting feisty Nanna Jean. And they all have their own problems to deal with!

But while Lucy at the Miller family’s house, a combination of sibling scheming, bad weather and even worse luck means that she ends up stranded in the Highlands for Christmas with the Millers.

I have to be honest, this book did take a little while to get going. There are a lot of main characters to introduce and each of them has a back-story that really does need to be explored. Luckily I’ve read Sarah Morgan’s novels before (read my review of The Christmas Escape) and I knew that it would be worth sticking with this one.

And it really was, because once the story got going, I was hooked!

Snowed in for Christmas isn’t a straightforward Christmas romance between a boy and a girl. Each of the characters has got a story that reels you in until you feel like you’re snowed in at Miller Lodge as well. Whether it’s Alice’s rocky relationship, Clemmie’s unrequited love or Glenda’s worries about her husband, these characters feel so real. I genuinely cared what would happen to them all.

And overseeing them all is the matriarchal Nanna Jean. I absolutely loved her for her feisty nature, inappropriate comments and general interfering in her relatives’ lives. When I grow up, I want to be like Nanna Jean!

But ultimately, Snowed in for Christmas is a festive love story and as such, yes, it has the happy ending that will lift your spirits and melt your heart. So if you want to snuggle up with a hot drink and a festive read this Christmas, you won’t go far wrong with this one.

The blurb:

She’s snowed in with the family. The only problem? They’re not her family.

A family gathering
This Christmas the Miller siblings have one goal – to avoid their family’s well-meaning questions. Ross, Alice and Clemmie have secrets that they don’t intend to share, and they are relying on each other to deflect attention.

An uninvited guest
Lucy Clarke is facing a Christmas alone, and the prospect of losing her job – unless she can win a major piece of business from Ross Miller. She’ll deliver her proposal to his family home in the Scottish Highlands and then leave. After all, she wouldn’t want to intrude on the Miller’s perfect family Christmas.

A Christmas to remember
When Lucy appears on the Miller’s snow-covered doorstep, she is mistaken for Ross’s girlfriend. But by the time the confusion is cleared up, a storm has hit and Lucy is stuck. As everyone settles in for a snowed-in Christmas, tensions bubble to the surface and suddenly Lucy finds herself facing a big family fallout with a family that isn’t hers…

A heart-warming, spirit-lifting festive read: 8.5/10
