I’ve been wearing a lot of blue nail varnish through the Summer. But now that my skin is getting a bit paler in the Autumn months, I’m steering away from that colour. My skin is blue toned anyway and it can make me look a bit deathly. And while I still love the bright pinks and corals, they just don’t seem right for this season.
So for Autumn, I’ve been picking up some lovely soft shades which are kind of neutral with a hint of colour. But it wouldn’t be me if there wasn’t a bit of a vampy twist to my selection. So there are a few deep red shades in the range as well. Most of these colours are new shades or still widely available, but you might have to do a bit of googling for a couple of them.
This season, I’ve also displayed the colours on a nail wheel for the first time – I think it gives a better indication of the colour than just showing the bottles. I’ve put two coats of each colour and I found it quite interesting to see that the Essie polishes actually have given the most even finish.
Here are my choices of polish for Autumn nails, L-R on the colour wheel: Maximillian Strasse Her, Master Plan, Cocktail Bling, Windsor Mews, Porchester Square, Just a Little Rosti at This, I’m Suzi and I’m a Chocoholic, Fishnet Stockings.
Essie Nail Lacquer in Maximillian Strasse Her
I bought this nail polish earlier in the year and I’ve been really looking forward to wearing it in the Autumn. It’s a green-grey shade that really flatters my skin and even one coat gives good coverage.
Essie Nail Lacquer in Master Plan
A shade from last year that I’ve only just bought, Essie describe it as a ‘mischievous soft grey’. I’m not totally sure how grey can be mischievous, but I love it anyway. It’s a grey/brown – you could call it greige, I suppose.
Essie Nail Lacquer in Cocktail Bling
Completing the trio of soft Essie shades is this grey-blue polish. It looks like a lighter softer version of Petal Pushers and there is a little hint of lilac in there as well.
Nails Inc NailKale polish in Windsor Mews
I bought this recently, when I went to look at the new Grand Central development. It’s one of Nails Inc’s NailKale range which contain kale extract to help give healthier nails. I love this pinky/purply’grey shade.
Nails Inc Nail Polish Porchester Square
This one is similar to the Essie Master Plan polish, but it’s a little less grey and a little lighter in shade. The polish goes on easily and one coat gives pretty good coverage.
OPI Nail Polish in Just a Little Rosti at This
Both of the OPI Nail Polishes in this list are slightly older shades that aren’t available from the official website. But they are shades that I know I’ll be wearing lots over the next few months, and can be tracked down online with a little searching. This is a dark, vampy red with a hint of blue in it, very ‘me’.
OPI Nail Polish in I’m Suzi and I’m a Chocoholic
Another one that you might need to track down. This is more of a chocolate brown with a hint of red and not quite as dark as the other shade I’ve selected.
Essie Nail Lacquer in Fishnet Stockings
I love this shade! It’s a glossy, vampy, sexy red that I wore a lot last winter. I can see that I’m going to be wearing it a lot this year as well and it will carry me right through the next few months.
So those are my picks for Autumn nails. I’d love to know what you think of them and what you’ll be wearing on your nails this season.
