My results on last year’s goals were a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest. I did manage to complete my Reading Challenge (and then some!), and I did well to keep a positive frame of mind through a pretty difficult year. On the other hand I hardly travelled, didn’t attend a single blogging conference, and failed to post a single video. Not all that impressive, really…
But it takes more than that to knock me back, so now I’m setting new goals for a new year. It definitely works better for me than making resolutions to stop drinking alcohol or whatever. I’m going to cover my blogging goals in a separate post over the weekend, but here are the rest of my goals for 2017:
1 – Complete my 2017 Reading Challenge
I’ve managed to read at least 40 books in each of the last two years, and I’m setting myself another challenge for 2017. But this year I’m pushing things a little higher by setting my target at 45 books for the year. And as with last year’s challenge, I’m aiming to include at least one non-fiction book per month. I’ll be updating my progress at the end of each month, but until then you can click here to find out more about my challenge.
2 – Travel More
This goal is becoming more and more important to me as I’m really keen to make travel a part of this blog. I also want to take the boys abroad more often in these last few years before they fly the nest! With that in mind, I have already planned a few days in Berlin for me and the boys in April. I’ve got a few more trips lined up for 2017, and you can read my full travel plans in this post.
3 – Finish ‘that’ Cross Stitch
I included this in my Fifty Before Fifty list, and I ‘d like to tick it off my list this year. I started a big cross stitch pattern back in early 2004, and it is still less than one-quarter finished. So this year I’m going to dig it out from the back of my wardrobe and get stitching. I think that it would take around 3 months of daily stitching to complete it, so surely I can get it done over the next 12 months? Can’t I?
4 – Say ‘Yes’ More Often
I’ve always been quite shy in real life. I managed to work through it in my late teens, but becoming a stay-at-home-mum in my mid-twenties really knocked me back to being a wallflower. Even now that I’m in my forties, I have a tendency to turn down invitations that I’d like to accept. So in 2017 I’m going to do my best to say yes to more things, and stop being such a wallflower!
I’m also going to say yes more often when I see concerts and exhibitions that I want to attend. If 2016 taught me anything, it’s that my heroes are very mortal and won’t be around for ever. So I’ll be grabbing whatever opportunities come my way in 2017.
5 – Post on YouTube
This one could possibly be in my blogging goals post, but I thought I’d include it here. I set a goal of posting at least one video per week on my YouTube channel in 2016. But in the end, the total number of videos that I posted was a big fat zero! So I’m setting a less scary target of at least one video per month. I’ve got so many exciting events and trips planned already that it really shouldn’t be too hard to meet this goal.
6 – Boost my Fitness
This is probably the most difficult one for me to achieve because my own body keeps on sabotaging me! After the back injury that I carried over in 2016 I did get back into the gym. But then I developed what felt like Plantar Fasciitis around October, and I was back on the bench again. I’m taking my recovery carefully, but fingers crossed I’ll be back in the gym (again!) in the next few weeks. At least Charlie helps to keep me active…
