Hotel Chocolat recently asked me to share one of my favourite Mum Moments, and I’ve certainly got a lot to choose from – after all, I’ve been a Mom for nearly half my life now! It’s hard to think that there was a time before motherhood, I’m so used to having one or more of the boys around the house. When they’re away, the house seems far too quiet!
I could have picked any of the trips away that Lyle and I shared while he was playing tennis, or the proud moment we found out that Ollie had passed his 11+ exam. I could share with you the fun times that we’ve had on holiday in Portugal. But for me, the proudest Mum Moments are actually the ones when the boys are heading off on an adventure on their own.
We’ve always encouraged the boys to take any opportunities they can to travel. Whether it’s a PGL holiday with school, a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, or a trip overseas with Scouts, I want them to make the most of whatever chances come their way.
Last Sunday, I took Lyle to New Street Station to catch a train down to Plymouth on his own. He’s spending a week down there at the Sea Cadets training centre at HMS Raleigh, and he was very excited about it. Now, luckily for me, there was a group of cadets travelling down from another unit and their accompanying officer offered to keep an eye on Lyle for me. He looked so excited and just a little bit nervous as I waved him off. And I think I managed to hide my own nerves until the train had pulled away. I can’t wait til he’s back home though!
I can’t help feeling very proud of the boys when they go off on these adventures on their own. It really makes me feel that I’m doing my job pretty well.
For me personally, Mother’s Day always feels a little bittersweet. My own Mom died in 1995, and I particularly miss her on Mother’s Day. Luckily, Mark and the boys always spoil and pamper me on the day. I usually get breakfast in bed, a few trashy mags to indulge in, and hopefully there’ll be some chocolate as well.
Hotel Chocolat is one of my favourite chocolate brands, and as usual, they have some gorgeous gifts for Mother’s Day. They sent me one of their yummy Mother’s Day Sleeksters, which are packed with 27 delicious chocolates. There are truffles, pralines, florentines and much more to choose from. The Sleekster costs £22.50 and it would make a fabulous Mother’s Day gift or a treat for yourself!
And Hotel Chocolat are also offering a Mother’s Day Sleekster to one lucky SallyAkins.com reader.
For a chance to win this gorgeous gift, all you have to do is log into the Rafflecopter below and use any of the social media entry methods. You can also leave me a comment to let me know your favourite Mum Moment, to boost your chance of winning. It could be about your own children, or a favourite moment with your own Mum.
The giveaway is open to UK readers over 18 only, and will run until 11.59pm on 15th March 2017. I will be picking the winner on 16th March 2017 so that we can do our best to get your choccies to you before the big day. Full terms and conditions are available in the Rafflecopter.
